The bench lake wildfire burning near Red Fish Lake has scorched 2037 acres and at last check is 8 percent contained.  Around 331 first responders are now helping to fight the fire.  The Forest Service said crews have made progress in guiding the fire into marshy terrain to slow its intensity. Crews plan to contain the fire along the lake’s edge by constructing more firelines. Aerial resources have dropped over 900,000 gallons of water to combat the fire.

After House bill 521 passed into law this year, turns out that most Idaho school districts want their new facilities money all at once.  It will deliver $1 billion to schools for facilities upgrades, and districts have the option to take their share in a lump sum or in annualized installments over the next decade.

36-year-old Brandon Aaron Dana was sentenced today to 10 years in federal prison for distributing over 7,000 fentanyl pills in the Magic Valley.  Law enforcement officers identified Dana while investigating a drug trafficking organization led by Austin Lee.  Dana is the fifth defendant sentenced as a member of this drug trafficking conspiracy.

Attorney General Raúl Labrador has announced investigators with his Idaho Internet Crimes against Children Task Force arrested thirty-nine-year-old Sergio Martinez yesterday, for 4 counts of Sexual Exploitation of a minor.  The task force was assisted by the Twin Falls police and sheriff’s office along with the Rupert Police.

A Nampa landscaping nursery was not what it appeared.  The owner of Rolling Hills Nursery, Sergio Cisneros-Guzman, was sentenced to 16 years in federal prison for trafficking meth and guns out of his garden center.  After he serves his time, he will be deported after serving his sentence, as he is a Mexican citizen and was living in Nampa illegally.

Citing the fact that over 40 people have died this summer, 114 for the year, the state police say they will be teaming up with over 50 agencies to beef up patrols looking for aggressive drivers.  Look for more officers on patrol during what is called the 100 deadliest days a period between Memorial day and Labor day.
