Just before 10 last night, a 55 year old man was struck by a train in Shoshone. Police say it happened on U.S. 93 and Glenwood Street. The man was walking his bicycle across the tracks when he was struck. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The road was closed for nearly 6 hours while authorities investigated the incident.
Skyler Meade who is facing a first degree murder charge following the death of James L. Mauney was transported to Nez Pierce County yesterday. Meade had already pleaded guilty to planning and executing a prison break on March 20. During his escape, he is alleged to have murdered the 83-year-old of Juliaetta and a second individual in Clearwater County.
Yesterday lawmakers in Idaho said the freedom from unfair gun taxes act was introduced in Washington. Senator Jim Risch said the bill would prohibit states from implementing excise taxes on firearms and ammo to fund gun control programs.
Police fired shots at a suspect last night near Meridian after authorities began pursuing a vehicle in an area of I-84 and Meridian road. It started around 6 pm. The suspect called 911 to say he had a gun. When the vehicle stopped, the suspect ignored commands from police. He is listed in Critical condition.
Residents in Gooding are in mourning for 14 year old Ryver Milloy who died as the result of a negligent gunshot Sunday. A memorial service will be held tomorrow at 10 am at the Gooding High School. There have been no arrests.
Idaho Sen. Jim Risch is continuing to push back against a proposed wind farm northeast of Twin Falls. Risch’s latest bill would halt the Lava Ridge project until the nonpartisan Government Accountability Office analyzed its effects on the nearby Minidoka National Historic Site.
More than 300 firefighters fighting the Gwen Fire located east of Lapwai had achieved 65% containment this morning. The wildfire started July 24 and has burned more than 28,800 acres destroying homes and commercial property.
