There are several weather warnings from the national weather service for parts of southern Idaho. A warning for up to 6 to 10 inches of snow with possible 12 to 24 inches on the higher peaks in West Central Mountains, Stanley and Galena Summit through 5 pm this afternoon. There is also an avalanche watch for much off the backcountry in Camas and Blaine County. Winds could also be a factor with 35 mile per hour gusts in those areas.
The Idaho Legislature’s Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee voted to provide $11.6 million in next year’s budget to fight invasive quagga mussels that were detected last year in the Snake River near Twin Falls. The money is included in the new spending requests in the enhanced fiscal year 2025 budget for the Idaho State Department of Agriculture.
The new hangar near the Boise Airport that collapsed late last month was a key piece in a long-range project to revamp the Boise Airport campus. It’s not currently clear how the interconnected projects will move forward. The airport has seen passenger volumes surge in recent years as the Boise metro area continues to grow.
The Idaho Senate will now review a recommendation from the legislature that could add the death penalty for Lewd Conduct cases involving a minor. The legislature also passed on a bill that would allow prosecutors to levy charges of sexual exploitation of a child when images of children are generated by artificial intelligence.
News reporters will not be allowed inside the Idaho Republican presidential caucus on March 2 or allowed to observe party officials tabulating results at party headquarters, raising concerns among some transparency advocates. Idaho Republican Party’s rules for the caucus only allow registered Republicans and their minor children to attend.
Most Idahoans qualify to e-file their taxes for free but according to the Idaho Tax commission only 10 percent take advantage of the offer. If your adjusted gross income is less than $79,000 a year, you're likely eligible. That’s about 70-percent of Idahoans.
