A 31-year-old man from Twin Falls, Idaho has been assessed a $6,100 fine and a three-year hunting ban for illegal shed hunting on Wyoming’s National Elk Refuge and the Bridger-Teton National Forest during closed season. Jonathan Lee Cox is also banned from setting foot on federal lands in Wyoming for three years. The fish and wildlife service said “The defendant pled guilty to a felony charge of the attempted transport and sale of more than 1,000 pounds of poached antlers, valued at roughly $18,000.
A 37 year old Idaho Falls resident was sentenced to at 16 years in federal prison for coercion and enticement of a minor. Bret Victor Castro communicated with a 15 year old female over the internet in June of last year using Facebook messenger. Court records say he turned the conversation to one of sexual nature. After prison he will be on supervised release for 15 years.
One of the two men who have been charged in the shooting death of 32 year old Freddy Rodriguez last November in a Twin Falls neighborhood will not face the death penalty. 18 year old MiQuavis Taylor appeared in court this week for arraignment on new charges involving the murder of the local tattoo artist. He now faces two counts of Aggravated assault and burglary. He already is facing 13 charges including murder along with grand theft. He faces life in prison. His defense attorney said he is attempting to work a plea deal.
While construction workers renovated the Lincoln County Courthouse in Shoshone a Journeyman’s bag was found in the basement. Inside were tools dating back to the construction of the building some 120 years ago. This Saturday the items will be on display at the courthouse with an unveiling at 11.
Another school district is moving to 4 day weeks. At the Nampa School Board meeting, trustees voted to move to a four-day school schedule beginning in fall 2024. The fifth day, a non-student contact day, will serve as time for instructors to plan lessons, prepare for class and schedule meetings on campus
