Yesterday a tractor trailer exploded in flames closing the exit off of I-15 south of Shelley. At last check the road is still closed because of another accident that occurred. Crews remain on scene this morning removing the debris.
Idaho officials offered their support and reactions after a shooting at former President Donald Trump’s rally on Saturday in Pennsylvania. “America needs our candidates to be able to campaign safely,” Gov. Brad Little wrote on the social media platform X.
A Wildfire continues to burn near Redfish lake this morning. The latest numbers say 350 acres has burned. According to the U.S. Forest Service, the fire started Thursday about eight miles south of Stanley. By Friday, Sawtooth National Forest officials ordered the closure of Redfish Lake and the surrounding recreation area because of its proximity to the fire. Fire engines are in place at the lake’s north end to protect Redfish Lodge and other structures.
If Utah hosts the 2034 Olympics the economic impact could be about $6.6 billion, according to a new report from the University of Utah. The report comes as a delegation with the Salt Lake City-Utah Committee for the Games is gearing up for a July 24 trip to Paris, where they’ll argue Utah’s case to the International Olympic Committee.
New non-stop flight routes are coming to the Boise Airport. Alaska Airlines announced it will offer 18 new direct flights, three of which fly in and out of Boise. Beginning this December, Alaska will fly direct from Boise to Bozeman, Montana. Also starting in December, Alaska will fly direct from Boise to the Santa Ana airport in Orange County, California. Finally there will be non-stop service to Orlando, Florida, starting in January.
For those planning on boating at Lucky Peak this summer, there are only a few weekends left. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began lowering water levels have begun lowering the water by the first week in August, boat ramps are expected to be inaccessible. It’s happening several weeks earlier this year to accommodate for the Turner Gulch boat ramp rehabilitation project.
