Local Sports 5/15/24

The Idaho State Bengals kick off the 2024 season against the Oregon State Beavers in Corvallis, OR, on August 31 at Reser Stadium. More eyes will now be on the contest as the event will have a national television broadcast.  Oregon State and the Pac-12 network announced its television schedule and kickoff times for 2024. The Season opener will now be broadcast on the CW network of stations across the country and the Bengals and Beavers will face off at 4:30 PM MT.

The College of Southern Idaho Men's Distance Track Program will have five runners compete Thursday through Saturday at the NJCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in West Monroe, La.  Meanwhile for the ladies, the Golden Eagles will have 13 runners representing various events. 

In high school games, eight softball squads in each classification look to capture a state championship this weekend.  Action gets underway Wednesday at the Genesee Community Fields with the 1A tournament, which runs through Friday afternoon. The remaining brackets begin Thursday and wrap up Saturday with four championship contests. State softball uses a double-elimination format. Owyhee, Kimberly, Malad and Genesee each look to win back-to-back titles and enter their respective tournaments as the No. 1 overall seeds.

From Boise State University, Sam Sippel and James Van Herzeele were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team. For the ladies, Ariadna Briones Ginesta, Nicole Discenza, Pauline Ernstberger and Shauna Heffernan were added to the list.  To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must play in 70% or more of the team's competitions and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or better.
