The high school athletics season came to a close on Saturday.
The Kimberly Bulldogs softball team claimed their second consecutive 3A state championship with a 9-6 win over Homedale. The Twin Falls Bruins finished third at state after falling to Pocatello 5 to 3.
In Baseball, Kimberly defeated Fruitland 5 to 3. The bulldogs finished third at state. It was Wendell 12, Challis-Mackay 3 meaning the Trojans finish third at state.
College sports are also wrapping up. Three Boise State softball players were honored by the NFCA as All-Pacific Region selections. Sophomore infielder Sydney Groves was named to the first team as a designated player or utility/non-pitcher, while senior right-hander Taylor Caudill and sophomore Sophia Knight were second-team selections as a pitcher and outfielder, respectively. The Broncos went 36-23 on the season and finished as the MW Championship runner-up. The 251 wins over the last eight seasons is the most in the conference during that stretch.
The College of Southern Idaho Men's and Women's Track Teams saved the best for last Saturday in the NJCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field National Championships. The Golden Eagles had three runners place in the top eight on the final day. Cayden Tupper took sixth in the 1500 Meters in a time of 3:54.18 to give the men their first top eight finish of the weekend. On the women's side, Jennaveve Bingham placed fourth in the 800 Meters in 2:11.20 and Elizabeth Phillips took fourth in the 5,000 Meters in 18:00.92. Two other CSI women ran the 5k. Abigail Case took 15th in 18:59.54 and Macie Chugg took 23rd in 19:55.45. The meet is the final competition this year for the Golden Eagles.
