Wildfires continue to burn in Idaho.  The largest, the Paddock fire near Emmett, has burned 187,185 acres and is 16 percent contained as of this morning.  Meanwhile, over 29,684 acres have burned south of Horse Mountain Lookout.  Called the Lime point fire containment is at 27-percent.



Flags were flying half-staff over the weekend in Idaho.  Governor Brad Little asked the flags be lowered to honor former Senator Steve Symms who passed away Thursday.  The Canyon County Fruit Farmer was 86.



Idaho state police have a goal to increase the amount of Sexual assault nurse examiners in the gem state to 250.  Four years ago, Idaho had 17 locations and only 3 had trained nurses.  Now there are 231.  18 counties have no facility where a person can receive an exam by a trained nurse.



The west Nile Virus was recently found along the Snake River on the border of twin Falls and Jerome Counties.  The local public health district said area residents need to protect themselves from mosquito’s using insect repellent.



Idaho colleges are running into problems registering students who want to use FASFA money to help fund their education.  Usually admission pros can work up a solid set of forecasts.   This year is different. The Idaho Launch grant program could bring a surge of new first-year students. But the FAFSA fiasco the botched rollout of a new federal financial aid form could keep some would-be students from enrolling.



Idaho Governor Brad Little said during his administration, Idaho has cut or simplified more than 95 percent of regulations.  Friday, he announced another 466 pages of regulations were removed out of state administrative code at the end of the fiscal year 2024 which ended in June.  Little pointed out that the federal governments code of rules grew by over 188 thousand pages. 



It was quite a sticky smelly mess Friday afternoon along I-84.  ISP said that just after 2 a 26 year old Wendell man was traveling in a semi truck loaded with Manure near the Kimberly exit when another semi struck the back of the truck loaded with 48,000 pounds of cane molasses.  A portion of the eastbound lane was blocked for nearly 5 hours.  Minor injuries were reported.

Tuesday Night:  Partly cloudy, with a low around 56. Northwest wind 6 to 11 mph becoming south southwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 21 mph.

 

Wednesday:  A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 84. South southwest wind 6 to 8 mph becoming west northwest in the afternoon.

Wednesday Night:  Mostly clear, with a low around 55.

 

Thursday:  A 40 percent chance of showers after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 86.

Thursday Night:  A 20 percent chance of showers before midnight. Partly cloudy, with a low around 54.
