A 10 vehicle pileup closed a portion of I-84 yesterday afternoon and sent two people to the hospital with injuries. The accident just after 2 in Elmore county started when a semi-truck that was westbound failed to stop in time for slowed traffic near a construction zone. The truck collided with 9 other vehicles. The lanes were closed for nearly 5 hours.
The Idaho department of Agriculture hosted a town hall meeting yesterday evening at the city hall in Twin Falls to discuss the extent of the Quagga Mussel infestation at Centennial Park. Officials say they have found one mussel so far and will be treating the water beginning at the Twin Falls Dam and down river to Centennial park which is closed until at least October 20th.
Lawmakers failed to gather enough support to call a special session to fix an error in Idaho’s primary election by yesterday’s deadline. That means the state will move forward with their caucus plan.
Emergency room doctors in Idaho are no longer protected from prosecution under the state’s abortion ban after the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals reversed an order that had been in effect since August 2022. The court granted the Idaho Legislature’s appeal after U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill made the decision and refused to reconsider it in May.
A dispute between the state Republican party and a local party continued in court last week over whether the Bingham County Republican Central Committee violated its rules and bylaws during its election of new officers over the summer. Former Bingham County Republican chairman Dan Cravens announced his intent to resign earlier this year and called a meeting to elect his replacement in July. Idaho Republican Party chairwoman Dorothy Moon later declared the elections void after she received a complaint about the conduct of the meeting.
Flying from the Idaho Falls Airport to Los Angeles got a bit easier and cheaper. The Idaho Falls Regional Airport has been awarded a federal Small Community Air Service Development Grant of $950,000 to support efforts to offer additional flights. The grant provides a revenue guarantee to pursue and develop future air service to the Los Angeles area. The grant also aims to further reduce airfare costs and provide greater regional connectivity.
