Firefighters in Shoshone are battling a large structure fire. At this point we know that multiple agencies have been called in to assist in the multiple alarm fire.
The Elmore County Sheriff's Office is investigating a murder, after finding a deceased adult male at a home. Officials say it started with a report to 911 of an attempted suicide at a home. First responders determined the scene seemed suspicious. Evidence at the scene led them to arrest a 56-year-old woman, Mickey Romero, who is charged with second-degree murder.
An Idaho judge has granted suspected quadruple murderer Bryan Kohberger's request to have his trial moved out of Latah County, where he is accused of killing four college students in an early morning home invasion attack. Judge John Judge's order moved the trial to an unspecified new location, possibly the larger Ada County. The judge said it was moved because of media coverage.
Idaho drivers are seeing little change at the pumps this week. According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of regular in the Gem State is $3.58, nearly a penny less than a week ago, but four cents less than a month ago and 58 cents less than a year ago. The national average currently sits at $3.27 per gallon.
An AMBER Alert issued for a missing 4-year-old Idaho girl is now canceled after the Owyhee County Sheriff's Office found the child. Laney Landry, who was last seen in the Bachman Grade area of Owyhee County on Sunday, was found last night. Authorities believed Landry was in immediate danger and was possibly abducted by 55-year-old Rand Gruber.
In 2023, tourism across southern Idaho brought $23 million to local economies. The National Park Service manages several parks, including Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve, City of Rocks National Reserve, Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument and Minidoka National Historic Site. The report, 2023 National Park Visitor Spending Effects, found that a total of 400,000 visitors to those Idaho parks spent a combined total of nearly $20 million in neighboring communities.

Area softball players are in mourning after Twin Falls high School Junior Laney Morgan died early Sunday when the vehicle she was in crashed near Wendell. She was a catalyst for the Bruins during her high school career, helping them take third place at the 4A state championships in May. There is a Memorial account set up at ICCU under “Memorial account for Laney Morgan” and donations will be accepted until December 18th.
After several years rebuilding the program, including a couple of seasons without fielding a team, the Richfield Tigers are excited to be back as a full-fledged varsity program and member of the 1A Sawtooth Conference in District 4. 10 year coach Buck Hendren has seen the Tigers through the rebuild, from the years without a team where players have competed for other programs to years where the team played a handful of junior-varsity level games to years like 2023, where the Tigers played seven games, three at the varsity level and four at the junior-varsity level. Through it all, the players have gained strength and experience and are finally ready to jump back into the Sawtooth this fall.
The Shoshone Indians limped their way to an 0-9 finish in 2023. But there's positive signs for the small 1A program nestled in the heart of the Magic Valley. For starters, only one senior graduated off of last year's team. So what was an incredibly young squad a year ago should be better in 2024. Then, there's new head coach Mike Nunnelee who takes over for longtime mentor Michael Perry and has previous coaching experience at both Murtaugh and Marsing, so he understands the challenges of trying to turn around programs that are in a downturn.
Behind a huge weekend from Libby Swan, the College of Southern Idaho Women's Rodeo Team claimed the top spot Friday and Saturday at the Southern Utah University Rodeo. The Golden Eagle men took fifth. CSI next competes this Friday and Saturday in Pocatello at the Idaho State University Rodeo.
From the scoreboard, for boys' soccer yesterday, The sun valley community school beat Buhl 11 to 0. It was Wendell 13 Declo 0. Filler downed Bliss 3 to 1. Gooding bested Kimberly 1 to 0. For the girls, the Sun Valley community school downed Buhl 5 to 0. It was Wendell 5 Declo 2. Kimberly outlasted Gooding 8 to 1.
