Motorists using the interstate between Jerome and Twin Falls will see more detours this week. Bob Barton Road will be utilized as a temporary off-ramp at the interchange until fall 2025 as crews work on the new eastbound off-ramp. On Wednesday, crews will shift eastbound traffic exiting to the temporary off-ramp. Traffic will exit the Interstate, head south on Bob Barton Road, and stop at a three-way intersection.

A 62-year-old Alamo Texas man was sentenced to 27 months in federal prison for extorting H-2A workers and filing false tax returns.  Court records show that Ernesto Garza deposited nearly a half million dollars into his personal accounts.  He had dealings with companies that operate in Idaho including Glenns Ferry. 

Three people were injured, one critical, in a two-car pileup in Twin Falls.  The crash on Saturday afternoon happened when a westbound car on Addison Avenue East crossed the center line.  The impact ejected a male passenger.

Dylan Ray, a former College of Southern Idaho student body president, is awaiting arraignment in the district court.  The 20-year-old was arrested on May 7 and was charged with 15 felony counts of distributing child sexual material.  Ray faces 30 years in prison of a $50,000 fine for each felony charge.  His bail is set at $500,000.

The Nampa Police Department said two suspects were arrested and a police K-9 has died following a car chase and crash that happened on Saturday. Sept. 21 around 5:45 p.m.  There will be a memorial service for the K-9 according to the Nampa Police department.

Last week we reported that the Caldwell school district had canceled the homecoming parade and dance that was supposed to happen on Friday.  Now the district is reporting that about half of the students stayed home on Friday because of online threats.  The district said the dance will be rescheduled at a later date.

Because of threats, the Bosie school district board will hold a special meeting This evening to address concerns.  There have been threats posted to social media but all have been deemed not credible.  The meeting will discuss the security procedures in place in the district.

SPORTS

Boise State was suffocating in all three phases Saturday night, as the Broncos registered a 56-14 victory over Portland State in the Broncos' home opener Saturday night at Albertsons Stadium.  The Broncos combined for 609 total yards – 342 in the air and 267 on the ground.

Fourth-ranked Idaho held off No. 19 Abilene Christian and close out a 27-24-win Saturday night at Wildcats Stadium in Abilene.

In front of a homecoming crowd of almost 9,000, the Idaho State Bengals defeated the Southern Utah Thunderbirds 38-28 to defend the ICCU Dome and go 2-0 at home on the season.  The Idaho State offense was firing on all-cylinders and the defense held strong stopping the strong SUU running game on four-of-four 4th down attempts. Idaho State remains in Pocatello for the start of Big Sky Conference play. On Saturday, the Bengals welcome Montana State to the ICCU Dome for a conference clash. Kickoff is set for 4:00 PM.

The CSI Men's soccer club came out fighting against #2 Salt Lake but ran out of steam as the Bruins pulled away for the 6-0 victory Saturday afternoon.   The Golden Eagles were holding strong defensively for much of the first half before the Bruins were able to break through in the 31st minute. The men are back on the road now, as they head to Price, Utah to take on USU-Eastern.

The CSI Women's soccer club suffered their first conference loss of the season Saturday afternoon after a huge second half from Salt Lake. Southern Idaho will hit the road once again as they prepare to take on USU-Eastern on Thursday.

From local high school games, and the football matchups on Friday, we find Shoshone defeating Camas County 60 to 0.  Buhl defeated American Falls 21 to 17.  Twin Falls took the win over Canyon Ridge 28 to 13.  Dietrich defeated Castleford 62 to 20.  Cole Valley Christian took the win over Wendell 47 to 7.  Declo downed Firth 22 to 7.  Grace defeated Glenns Ferry 42 to 20.  Hagerman downed Rockland big time with a 78 to 6 score.  Homedale took the win from Jerome 50 to 0.  Gooding outlasted Mountain home 30 to 6.  It was Preston 45 Burley 28.  Raft River for the win over Murtaugh 72 to 44.  Carey shut out Richfield 80 to 0.  It was Kimberly 17 Sugar Salem 14.  Valley outlasted Oakley 48 to 24 and Filer took the win over Wood River 31 to 16. 

From the soccer fields for the boys, Buhl and the Sun Valley Community school tied it up 3 each.  Highland of Pocatello took the win over Canyon Ridge 1 to 0   Wendell and Kimberly tied it up 1 each.  Shelley defeated Minico 6 to 1.  Preston downed Burley 1 to 0.  Twin Falls outlasted Columbia 3 to 2. 

 

For the girls, Buhl and the Sun Valley Community School tied it up with 1 each.  Highland of Pocatello took the win over Canyon Ridge 3 to 1.  Pocatello outlasted Twin Falls 3 to 2. 

 

For the games today, first for boys soccer, Bliss travels to Buhl, Kimberly goes to Declo, Wendell to Filer and for the Girls, Bliss to Buhl, Kimberly to Declo, Wendell goes to Filer.

For the volleyball games, Wood River will host Pocatello, Lighthouse Christian boards the bus to Glenns Ferry, Buhl goes to Declo, Butte County goes to Oakley, Murtaugh to Rimrock, Hansen to Castleford Camas County to Dietrich.  Carey to Richfield, Valley to Wendell and Jerome to Wood River.
