Sports 1/19/24


The 25th-ranked College of Southern Idaho Men's Basketball Team beat USU Eastern 85-76 Thursday in a Scenic West Athletic Conference battle.  CSI, now 14-5 overall and 3-0 in conference play, hosts Colorado Northwestern Saturday.


The 22nd-ranked College of Southern Idaho Women's Basketball Team beat 16th-ranked USU Eastern Thursday 78-71 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play.  CSI won't play until next week as Colorado Northwestern does not have a women's team this season.


James Ferguson-Reynolds was recognized a fourth time for his efforts during the 2023 season as College Football News bestowed upon the Boise State punter Third Team All-America honors.  The Geelong, Australia native had already received All-America honors from the AFCA, Sports Illustrated and the Associated Press.


The Bengals men's basketball team hosted their rivals, the Idaho Vandals, for the first of two meetings this season. The Bengals have defeated the Vandals the last six times in a row, and have not lost to Idaho in Pocatello since 2017.  In the end, the Bengals took the win 64 to 59.  The Idaho State men's basketball team will be back in Reed Gym tomorrow to host the Eastern Washington University Eagles. Tip will be at 6 PM.


For the Ladies, the Idaho state Bengal’s took the win over the vandals 61 to 56. 


To the local high school varsity basketball games yesterday, it took overtime but Filer defeated Buhl64 to 61.  The Sun Valley community school outlasted Twin Falls Christian Academy 48 to 41.  Twin Falls defeated Wood River 61 to 47.  Canyon Ridge took the win over Jerome 68 to 49.  Minico took the win over Mountain Home 66 to 54.  It was Kimberly 67 to Gooding’s 43.  Declo for the win over Soda Springs 62 to 47.  Camas County 76 to Dietrich 46.  Hagerman for the win over Richfield 54 to 22. 


For the girls, Valley defeated Hansen 65 to 45.  Kimberly for the win over Gooding 59 to 37.  Raft River outlasted Carey 52 to 39.  Oakley 62 took the win over Glenns Ferry 62 to 38.  Shoshone outlasted Castleford 52 to 31. 


As far as the sports schedule for the weekend, locally high school basketball, for the boys, Glenns Ferry travels to Carey, Valley goes to Castleford.  Oakley visits Hansen, Shoshone travels to Murtaugh, Lighthouse Christian is on the bus to Raft River.  Elsewhere Pocatello heads to Minico.  Filer hosts Skyline while Mountain Home travels to Kimberly.  Murtaugh heads to Butte county on Saturday.  Gooding goes to Declo.  Valley goes to Dietrich and Melba will visit Wendell.


For the Girls, Murtaugh is on the bus to Shoshone.  Mountain Home travels to Buhl.  Canyon Ridge visits Burley.  Richfield will visit Hagerman.  Wood River travels south to Jerome and Minico will visit Twin Falls.  Wendell travels to Shoshone.  Declo goes to Raft River and Burley heads north to play Wood River.
