The Bengals men's basketball team will return to Reed Gym for the first time in nearly 3 weeks. Idaho State will host Sacramento State tomorrow at 7 pm followed by Portland State on Saturday at 6 pm. Idaho State lost to Sacramento State by 2, just four weeks ago in Sacramento, and have dropped five out of their last six against the Hornets. However, the Bengals picked up a win against Portland State earlier this season, defeating the Vikings 69-63 in Portland, ending a six-game losing streak to the Vikings.

After a long offseason, the defending regular season Big Sky Champion Idaho State softball team returns to the diamond. The Bengals are set for a week of softball games on the west coast to open the 2024 season. First, the Bengals play a single game against San Diego tomorrow at 5.

With district tournaments on deck and roughly three weeks until state championships tip off, the latest Idaho high school boys basketball state media poll paints a clear picture of the top teams entering postseason play. Only the 1A DII classification didn't see the top-ranked team sweep all first-place votes. Camas County continues to lead the rankings. Wendell (2A) and Kamiah (1A DI) entered the state media poll this week.   In 4A play, Canyon Ridge is ranked 5th.  In 3A action Filer is ranked 4th and Kimberly 5th.  In 1A D1 teams Valley is tied with Kamiah for 5th place.

From the Girls district basketball playoffs, Number 1 ranked Murtaugh played 2nd seeded Oakley.  It was a close but Oakley took the win 41 to 40. The Hornets claimed their second straight district championship and are heading back to the state tournament.  Oakley finished as the state runners-up in 2023.  The Red Devils will play Valley tomorrow.

It was Valley over Raft River 47 to 44.  Raft River is eliminated.

Richfield took the win over Hagerman 51 to 22.  Richfield advances to district champion to take on Dietrich on Friday at Gooding High School. Tipoff is set for 7:00.

Jerome for the win over Burley 57 to 32.  Jerome will host Mountain Home on Thursday in a loser-out game.  The Burley Bobcats are eliminated with the loss.

Mountain Home took the win over Wood River 51 to 26.  The Mountain Home tigers will travel and play Jerome tomorrow in a loser-out game.  The Wolverines are eliminated with the loss.

For the boys yesterday, Buhl downed Wendell 66 to 61 and Hagerman outlasted Richfield 65 to 45.

On today’s high school varsity basketball game schedule, for the boys, Camas County travels to Victory Charter.  Burley goes to Canyon Ridge, Richfield boards the bus to Dietrich, Raft River heads to Glenns Ferry, Shoshone to Hansen, Castleford will visit Lighthouse Christian, Twin Falls travels to Minico, Carey to Murtaugh, Oakley to Valley and Jerome to Wood River.

For the girls as district playoffs continue, Wendell heads to Declo and Kimberly to Filer.
