Last Thursday, an eastern Idaho republican committee censured Rep. Stephanie Mickelsen after they said she violated Idaho's GOP platform. In the summer of 2022, under the new leadership of Chair Dorothy Moon, Idaho's GOP established its new party platform. A return to conservative principles, they called it. She will not be able to run as a republican. The group also censured Sen. Kevin Cook. They said Rep. Mickelsen received her second censure for her House votes regarding school choice and parental rights, party disaffiliation, and conduct unbecoming of a Republican representative.
The Idaho House of Representatives voted along party lines Thursday to pass a nonbinding resolution that supports the designation of a new traditional family values month in Idaho. Although the resolution does not carry the force and effect of law, legislators engaged in a passionate debate over the proposal Thursday nevertheless.
In a 4-3 vote Thursday morning, Idaho lawmakers on the Senate State Affairs Committee voted to move a bill forward that would prohibit transgender and nonbinary Idahoans enrolled in Medicaid, or state employees enrolled in the state’s insurance plan, from obtaining gender-affirming care. Promoters said the bill is aimed to protect taxpayer dollars, and it is a redrafted version of previous legislation presented earlier this session.
A judge has set the trial for Jeremy Best to start September 15th next year. Best was arrested last December and is charged with killing his wife Kali Randall, their unborn baby and their 10-month old son Zeke. Randall was found bleeding from a gunshot wound outside a shop at their home in Victor on November 30, 2023. After an extensive search, Best was found the following day by a pair of hunters on a desolate road in Bonneville County, sleeping nude on the side of the road in a sleeping bag. His son Zeke was found dead with him. He faces the death penalty.
